Differential Diagnosis of Oral and Maxillofacial Lesions, 5th Edition

Neurilemmoma also known as schwannoma is benign nerve sheath tumor rarely occurring in the oral cavity. It presents as encapsulated, slow growing, solitary, smooth-surfaced, usually asymptomatic tumor. We report a case of year-old male with well-defined mass on left retromolar region which was painless and slow growing. Diagnosis is made by histological examination and immunohistochemistry analysis to confirm the neural tissue origin of the lesion. The treatment is complete surgical excision of the lesion without recurrence. Schwann cells form a thin outline around each extracranial nerve fiber and wrap larger fibers with an insulating membrane, myelin sheath, to enhance nerve conductance.

This paper comes with a purpose to help the clinician as how to arrive at a logical differential diagnosis when an upper lip mass is encountered in day-to-day practice. The labial mucosa is commonly traumatized. One must be aware of the type of structures contained in the mucosa of the area of a lesion as well as the patients habits since they may relate to a lesion presented for diagnosis. It also helps them to procure a sound knowledge of the lesions by describing the lesions according to their clinical appearance and to aid the clinician in arriving at a differential diagnosis by considering that certain lesions have a predilection for the upper lip.

Желтый сигнал тревоги вспыхнул над шифровалкой, и свет, пульсируя, прерывистыми пятнами упал налицо коммандера. - Может, отключить его самим? - предложила Сьюзан. Стратмор кивнул.
